Travelling through Melbourne on business last week, I was reminded of the act be kind with no expectation. As I settled into a warm comfy coffee shop to enjoy a cup of tea and catch up with my emails, I noticed a homeless person standing outside at the street intersection.
Random Act of Kindness
The Melbourne weather that day was cold, wet and unforgiving. He was selling “The Big Issue”. I went out to buy a copy and have a chat. I took him a cup of coffee and a sandwich which he was grateful for. That was my random act of kindness that day. Be kind with no expectation! it felt humbling.
He said that he had been at this corner since 7am that morning and would stay until he had sold all his copies. It was now 1pm. As I bought his last copy, he exclaimed he could now head off and find a “warm, safe spot” to settle for the night.
Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of an American Marketing Company and more, talks about how kindness is the ultimate strength. The best business strategy that no one talks about! Gary says that most people see kindness as a weakness and believes that people who view kindness as a negative are just insecure themselves.
Gary identifies 3 key messages to being kind:-
1. Kindness builds emotional capital – the more you give the more emotional capital you build
2. Kindness creates stickiness with emotions – when you use negativity to control people who are working for you they will become resentful, ultimately affecting your business
3. Kindness is always rewarded – someone is always watching, people notice when kindness is given and your life will be affected because of it
Be kind with no expectation! Coming from a place of service, ultimately leads to more opportunities being presented to you.
Universal Laws
The Law of Cause and Effect is one of the 12 universal laws, it states that nothing happens by chance or outside the universal laws. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction or consequence. As a result, each thought, word and deed is a cause that sets off a wave of energy throughout the universe which in turn creates the effect whether good or not.
Ralph Waldo Emerson believed that this law was “the law of laws”.
With this in mind, when we apply this thinking to our new paradigm of female leadership we can become more effective and trusted by applying this law to our work and life. Some simple steps to take to amplify this law: –
1. Be a positive role model and lead with integrity and respect
2. Show people you value them and their contribution
3. Encourage them to have a voice, to be heard and contribute
4. To be of service, practice gratitude and believe in yourself
5. Carry out one random act of kindness every day
6. Show Up every day in your true authentic expression
7. Build your tribe
